During this fun and meaningful week, young people will explore racial and social justice themes as they develop improvisational acting skills in preparation for group performance. As part of a creative community, each participant will have the opportunity to  imagine various viewpoints as they engage with  characters, settings and situations from stories, poetry, history and current events. They'll gain new perspectives from dramatic material of different cultures, racial and ethnic groups and from walking field trips to local points of historic and current importance for social justice and civil rights.  By the end of the week, participants will be ready to share their  new awareness, improvisational skills, and creativity in a group performance for family and friends.

Facilitated by Sharon Smith who has combined social activism and theatre arts ever since she went to the High School of Performing Arts (the FAME school) in Manhattan.  She also has a degree in Multicultural Education and many years experience leading improvisational acting workshops with young people, designed for personal empowerment and social consciousness raising.

Middle Scribbles is a fun, experiential camp especially designed for writers who are in their middle school years. We explore "writerly habits" and exercise our right and left brains through wordplay, improv games, collage work, and getting out in the world to hunt interesting characters, stray pieces of dialog, physical details from the mundane to the amazing, and moments we can explode into scenes and stories or poems.
Facilitated by writer, educator and True Ink founder, Janet Hurley
